On International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, that is on 9th August 2023, the Government of Odisha launched ‘Odisha Mo Jungle Jami Yojana’. The Scheme is for the benefit of Schedule Tribes and Forest Inhabitants. 

Through this scheme, they will get a better livelihood along with food security. They will receive their basic rights in order to live a life of their own.

Eligibility Criteria of Odisha Mo Jungle Jami Yojana

The eligibility criteria of Odisha Mo Jungle Jami Yojana is:

• Applicants must be a citizen of Odisha.
• Only the people belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Forest Dwellers will be eligible.
• Single women and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups(PVTGs) will also be benefited from this scheme.

Moreover, Forest Right Acts(FRA) were announced during Gram Sabha meetings held in Villages, as per the official reports. So by this, it is clear that the Forest Rights would be known to all the people and that everyone who is eligible under Odisha Mo Jungle Jami Yojana will get benefits. What is Odisha Mo Jungle Jami Yojana

The Government of Odisha announced ‘Odisha Mo Jungle Jami Yojana’ on Wednesday for the benefit of tribal peoples. The implementation of this scheme will protect and secure the rights of forest inhabitants and tribal communities in the Odisha state. 

This Yojana aims to enhance these people’s livelihoods and ensure food security by providing improved facilities such as water, schools, transportation and healthcare services. 

Also, the program is granting land ownership and free access to forest resources, promoting sustainable development and assimilation of native populations into ordinary society. Over 7 lakh people in Odisha are expected to benefit from this new Scheme.

Who are the Beneficiaries under the Odisha Mo Jungle Jami Yojana?

The beneficiaries under Odisha Mo Jungle Jami Yojana are the Forest Dwellers and the Scheduled Tribe peoples. 

Earlier, forest inhabitants and tribal communities used to get all the advantages of forest and they used forest products to sustain their lives. Everything they have has been taken from nature itself. They collect dry and fallen wood for their fuel purposes; fruits, vegetables and others as food resources; bones, hides, skin, and herbs as a source of income. 

But nowadays, due to the interference of non-tribal humans, these basic rights of tribal people and forest dwellers are being deprived. In the name of conservation, they are getting exploited. For tourism purposes also, they are thrown out of their homes. Due to their problems of poverty, debt, illiteracy, exploitation, etc. They face numerous problems.

Due to these reasons, the government has set up a new scheme for their overall growth and development. The implementation of ‘Odisha Mo Jungle Jami Yojana’ will benefit Tribal Groups and Forest Inhabitants on a large scale. They will be benefited and will be considered as a part of our nature.

Additional Information Regarding Forest Dwellers and Scheduled Tribes:-

The Scheduled Tribes and other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, is an act of forest legislation which was passed in India in the year of 2006 on 18th December. 

The Constitution of India defined Schedule Tribes under Article 366(25) as “such tribes or tribal communities or parts of or groups within such tribes or tribal communities as are deemed under Article 342 to be Scheduled Tribes for the purposes of this constitution”. 

Indian Forests are home to a large number of people who reside in the forests. Tribal communities and forest inhabitants reside in these areas. These people use forest products.
